JERUSALEM, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said Wednesday afternoon in a statement that it launched a new wave of airstrikes on southern Lebanon targeting "several Hezbollah infrastructure sites."
It came about an hour after Avichay Adraee, an Israeli military spokesperson, warned on the social media platform X residents of the village of Deir Qanun Al-Nahr to evacuate ahead of an imminent airstrike on "a Hezbollah military site."
A ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024, largely ending the clashes that had erupted between the two sides in the wake of the Gaza conflict.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army occasionally carries out strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are aimed at eliminating Hezbollah "threats," and maintains forces in five main positions in the Lebanese border area.
Earlier in the day, Lebanon's National News Agency reported that an Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in the village of al-Tiri in the Bint Jbeil district, southern Lebanon, killed Bilal Cheaito, a treasurer of al-Tiri, and injured 11 other people in a nearby school bus, including 10 students and the bus driver.
Lebanese security sources told Xinhua the person killed was a member of Hezbollah, without providing further details. Enditem
