International and Chinese bands and singers will enliven the May Day holiday during the 5th Shanghai Pudong International Music Carnival. It's going to be a fun and interactive party.
Outdoor concerts at Century Park will ring up the curtain on the 5th Shanghai Pudong International Music Carnival. Singers and bands from home and abroad will bring "Orange Fashion," "Blue Romance" and "Red Passion" to the May Day holiday.
It's part of the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival at Music Square (orange), Montreal Garden (blue) and Music Fountain Square (red) that will be underway simultaneously all day at Century Park in Pudong from Thursday to Sunday.
Admission is 50 yuan (US$7).
MYXX singing group from the United States, Mauf band from Austria and local band Free Expression will rock the Orange stage; TC from Latin America, Classified band from Ireland and local pop singer Li Min bring romance to the Blue stage; Sunny from the Philippines, Cross Culture comprised of artists from the US, Panama and Russia, as well as local rock singer Feng Ye will sweep the Red stage.
MYXX is a two-sister act from Florida, performing hip-hop dance and R&B. They were guest performers at Whitney Houston's concert in 2002, and have toured more than 55 US cities since 2006.
The three members of Mauf perform beat box. Without any musical accompaniment, they make beautiful music. The Viennese band won the 2006 French Beat Box Championship to start their career.
TC is a multinational band from Latin America, bringing samba, cha-cha, rumba and other Latin vibes.
Cross Culture makes for special rap. Greg from Panama not only sings, but also brings humor. Singer Li Min studied Chinese folk music at Shanghai Conservatory of Music and delivers pop that evokes longing for a quiet and simple life
Some local pop figures will perform, including Gao Yayuan, fourth-place winner of the "My Show" singing competition, Zhang Xiaochen, the eighth-place winner in the 2006 "My Hero" talent show, and Wei Bin, who took fifth place in the 2006 "My Hero" show.
"With Chinese singers joining the music carnival this year, more audiences can participate in the interactive part," says Du Yonghe, general manager of Shanghai Tiancheng Culture Spreading Co, a major host of the event.
Du says "Revel 100" will be interactive, and foreigners singing Chinese songs will help create a fun party. The foreign singers on the stage will "challenge" Chinese pop songs such as "Wu Niang" ("Dancing Girl") and "Yueliang Daibiao Wo De Xin" ("The Moon Speaks My Mind").
