BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Japan should remember that Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and whether anything happens to Taiwan is not Japan's business at all, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said here Thursday.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks when answering a relevant question at a regular press conference.
In response to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks on the so-called "Taiwan contingency," many Chinese people have believed that Japan, which bears historical responsibilities on the Taiwan question, is the party least qualified to talk about it.
Historically, Japan had once forcibly occupied Taiwan and imposed colonial rule for half a century, during which Japanese invaders committed countless crimes in Taiwan.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China, Mao said, adding that Japan should remember that Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and whether anything happens to Taiwan is not Japan's business at all. "Using Taiwan to create trouble will only bring trouble to Japan itself." Enditem
