XIAMEN, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The 2025 Sunpadow International RC Off-Road Grand Prix kicked off on Friday in Xiamen, a coastal city in southeast China's Fujian Province.
The remote control vehicle competition, running until Sunday, features five events: 1/8 GP buggy racing, 1/8 EP buggy racing, 1/7 KM scale Citroen C3 WRC gas RC rally racing, 1/7 KM scale Citroen C3 WRC electric RC rally racing, and 1/6 Porsche 934 RC rally experience.
Offering a total prize pot of 150,000 yuan (21,060 U.S. dollars), the competition attracted top RC drivers from 15 countries and regions.
Joseph Quagraine, a Finlander RC driver, expressed that China is one of the strongest countries to promote RC racing.
"The RC car production moves to China. More and more cars are produced in China. And there are more good facilities for racing. Even the world championship in March next year for on-road will be held in China. Next, we need a Chinese world champion, that's the next step," Quagraine said.
It is the third time for David Ronnefalk from Sweden to compete this competition in Xiamen. In his opinion, China's RC racing scene has developed rapidly in the last couple of years.
"The technology in China is very advanced. The tracks, the equipments are also excellent. It's very important part for RC world for sure," Rnnefalk said, noting that he is also sponsored by a Chinese company. "It is important for me to come here and be able to see them face to face and discuss for future products and everything." Enditem
